Event Helper (RSPB Aire Valley)

We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to support our exciting and ever-growing event programme in the Aire Valley (RSPB Fairburn Ings and RSPB St Aidan's). This flexible role offers a wide variety of opportunities – from leading engaging wildlife experiences to supporting large-scale events – making it ideal for someone who loves nature and enjoys inspiring others but can’t always commit to volunteering regularly. Whether you’re an experienced birdwatcher, a wildlife enthusiast, or simply eager to get involved, you’ll find plenty of ways to make a difference.

As an Events Volunteer you will helping out in a range of ways, which may include some of the following:

  • Leading engaging events such as bird ID workshops, guided walks, and family nature experiences.
  • Supporting larger events e.g., 10K runs.
  • Helping ensure that events run smoothly, safely, and that every visitor has a memorable time.
  • Working with the Visitor Experience team to share ideas, shape future events, and improve the current event programme.
  • Following risk assessments to protect wildlife, visitors, volunteers, and staff.
  • Sharing the RSPB’s message with visitors in a warm, inspiring way that builds support for nature and the Aire Valley reserves.

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working as part of a team, loves chatting with people, and gains satisfaction from sharing their enthusiasm for wildlife. We’re especially looking for:

  • Friendly, approachable people who enjoy sparking conversations with visitors.
  • Some wildlife knowledge – particularly birds – or a willingness to learn more.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to help with a variety of activities.
  • A love of the outdoors and an eagerness to share it with others.
