Site Checks and Maintenance Volunteer (Cleaner, Sandwell Valley)
Available from 3 March 2025 to 25 October 2026
We’re really proud of our beautiful reserve at Sandwell Valley and love to welcome visitors to enjoy seeing the fantastic wildlife that lives here. As part of their visit, most people come to the visitor centre to find out what’s about, get close-up views of the birds on the feeders or simply enjoy a cup of coffee.
We want the visitor centre to sparkle so we’re looking for people who enjoy putting things to rights and keeping things clean to help us make sure it’s looking its best.
What would I be doing? The role involves
• Sweeping/vacuuming/mopping floors and even keeping the walls clear of the inevitable mud. (We love a muddy floor showing that people have had fun in nature but need to keep on top of it!)
• Keeping the windows clean so people can see the stunning views and wildlife. It’s one of the amazing things here so we want people to be able to see through them and say Wow!
• Keeping the bathrooms clean – sinks, toilets and floors.
• Keeping the coffee machine clean and emptying bins and ensuring it’s clean and welcoming for visitors.
What’s in it for me?
This role is great for people who enjoy getting immediate payback and seeing the difference they’ve made.
Alternatively, if you’re looking for experience we can provide a reference to help with future employment.
Who are you looking for? We’re looking for someone who can do a 1-2 hour shift each week but this can be flexible to work around your other commitments. No experience is necessary, and you don’t need to be into birds! A full induction will be given and instructions on any equipment to be used. We can cover the cost of you getting here.
