Visitor Engagement Volunteer (On Reserves) ((Mull of Galloway))
4 months
Join us at the spectacular RSPB Mull of Galloway Reserve and help bring nature to life for thousands of visitors every year. As one of the first faces people meet, you'll create unforgettable experiences, sharing the incredible sights, sounds, and scents of this remarkable coastal landscape. From guiding visitors through breathtaking wildlife encounters to helping deliver inspiring events and activities both on and off the reserve, you'll play a key role in connecting people with the wonders of nature. This is your chance to spark curiosity, inspire conservation, and showcase the vital work of the RSPB in one of Scotland's most stunning locations.
What will you be doing? • Be the welcoming face of the reserve, greeting visitors at the Visitor Centre and sharing your enthusiasm for the incredible wildlife, landscapes, and conservation work of the RSPB. • Bring nature to life outdoors, exploring the reserve, setting up wildlife-watching stations, and using spotting scopes to help visitors discover amazing birds and other wildlife up close. • Help create memorable experiences, supporting and delivering exciting activities, guided walks, and events both on and off the reserve, inspiring people of all ages to connect with the natural world.
What's in it for you? • Spending time at the spectacular Mull of Galloway and enjoying the incredible wildlife that calls the reserve home or passes by both in the sea or on the wing. • Enjoy the great outdoors, breathe in the fresh sea air, and soak up the beauty of the reserve while making a meaningful contribution to nature conservation. • Make a real difference, helping to inspire others to connect with and take action for nature while supporting the vital work of the RSPB. • Develop valuable skills and knowledge, from wildlife identification and visitor engagement to gaining a deeper understanding of conservation and the work of the RSPB. • Become part of a welcoming and supportive team, meeting like-minded people, sharing experiences, and making new friends.
RSPB will provide the training needed for you to undertake the role. We also have an online learning library available to volunteers, with a range of courses on conservation, health and safety, and other skills.
The RSPB will reimburse you for out-of-pocket expenses, including travel.
Who are we looking for? • Somone who loves nature and wants to share this passion with others. • Good communication skills • Enjoy talking to new people • Flexibility to take on a variety of tasks • Able to work on your own and within a small team • The role will require some walking around the reserve • Previous experience in a similar role is helpful but not essential
The volunteer role is based at RSPB Mull of Galloway Reserve, nr Drummore, Stranraer, Dumfries and Galloway DG9 9HP. The role requires the volunteer to be able to travel independently to the reserve (please be aware that there is no public transport access to the reserve). This volunteer role is seasonal, in line with the operation of the Visitor Centre from approximately April to October each year. During this time the Visitor Centre is open daily from 10.30am to 5pm. Volunteer help would be greatly appreciated on any day of the week, however attendance on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and/or Fridays would be especially helpful as these are the days when only one RSPB staff member is on site. We are happy to welcome volunteers that can either attend on a regular basis or can help out as and when required.
