Specialist/Expert Volunteer (Specialist GIS Support Volunteer - Home Based)
We are looking for a volunteer with specialist skills in GIS to join our Sector Advice team and help grow our capacity. This role is all about taking on a few tasks as part of an existing team that supports the RSPB’s operations. By opening up our work to more volunteers in this way, it means we can scale up what we can achieve and do more for nature.
The RSPB is the UK’s largest conservation charity, consistently delivering successful conservation, forging powerful partnerships with other organisations and inspiring others to stand up and give nature the home it deserves. The RSPB Sector Advice work in partnerships to create habitats, conserve rare species, and to provide a better environment in which to live.
We are looking for an experienced volunteer to help our work through GIS support.
Initially this will involve work on our Nature After Minerals quarry restoration mapping project, working across the mineral sector ( non-fossil fuel). Additional work will then include: support in mapping the wider teams work with partners, and so lead to effective reporting of our impact. Development of a site species prioritisation GIS tool
The opportunity is flexible, and we are looking for a commitment of at least 6 hours per week.
We are looking for a person with the following skills and experience: • A relevant degree in GIS, environmental sciences or geographical sciences, with advanced knowledge of GIS software or work experience and qualifications reflecting a similar level of expertise. • Good knowledge of using UK environmental and Ordnance Survey datasets. • A proactive, organised and effective approach to work and an appetite for diverse projects. • Experience of working alongside teams in the delivery of data analysis and mapping. • Motivated to use your skills and expertise to Save Nature. • Organisational and project management skills.
