Schools on Reserves Leader (Leighton Moss Education Team)

Opportunity image

Leighton Moss nature reserve offers schools and youth groups the opportunity to book a visit to learn about and be inspired by the natural beauty and amazing wildlife on the reserve. Our Schools on Reserves programme aims to give children the chance to experience nature first-hand and, by helping the groups, you can be part of exciting journeys of discovery!

Share in the children's excitement and assist in the delivery of our outdoor education programme - typical activities include hands-on science explorations of woodland, reedbed and pond habitats and seasonal sensory activities.

As a Schools on Reserve Leader you will help our Learning Officer to maximise the groups' learning experience. You will have the opportunity to lead the delivery of high quality standardised learning sessions and/or provide a valuable supporting role helping individual small groups.

Support and training will be provided but we are looking for people with the following interests, skills and experience:

  • A keen interest in wildlife, conservation and the environment (but no need to be an expert!).
  • An enthusiasm for outdoor education and willingness to learn new skills.
  • A resourceful and flexible approach to be able to cope with a wide variety of ages and abilities of children.
  • The confidence and ability to facilitate and possibly lead a fun and active day's outdoor education programme.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children of differing needs and levels of understanding.
  • Self-motivated with ability to work as part of a team.

This is a really rewarding role and offers the opportunity to create life-long memories for children. We'll give you training and experience to build your confidence. You'll be part of a friendly team of staff and volunteers and have the opportunity to make new friends.
