Residential on Reserve (More than 4 weeks) (practical conservation Strumpshaw Fen)
When: ASAP
Commitment: 6 months
Why We Want You:
We are looking for enthusiastic and committed residential volunteers with a passion for wildlife to help with our summer-autumn reedbed and fen management. You will also need to be practical and have a good fitness level to assist the friendly wardening team in implementing the reserve management plan for Mid-Yare Valley reserves. This will involve working to maintain and improve our internationally important reedbed and fen habitats, crucial for breeding bittern, bearded tit, and swallowtail butterflies.
You will also be involved in people engagement tasks, and function as an important member of the team helping us to deliver the first-class visitor experience that RSPB reserves are famous for.
What’s In It For You:
You will gain practical experience in habitat and estate management on an internationally important wetland site, working with the largest conservation charity in Europe.
Training will be offered as necessary, and you will gain experience and instruction in a variety of survey techniques, visitor services, and relevant administration (ideal for application in the wider conservation field).
You will also be provided with comfortable self-catering accommodation on site, with the reserve as your back garden, and will gain experience in teamwork and working with other volunteers.
On top of all this, you will know you are making a valuable contribution to wildlife conservation.
Requirements:
You must be at least 18 years of age, enthusiastic, reliable, proactive and able to demonstrate some practical ability. You will be capable and comfortable working in a team or as an individual.
A full clean driving license is not essential, but if you have one, that would be great! A keen interest in wildlife, conservation and reserve management is essential. You will be looking to develop a future career in conservation.
Notes:
Appropriate training will be provided and pre-agreed expenses will be re-imbursed where necessary.
