At the RSPB we are passionate about nature. We run a variety of projects to help deepen people’s love of nature and connect, inspire and mobilise more people to save nature.

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to support the RSPB’s Membership Recruitment & Retention Programme for up to two days a week in developing and delivering projects that tangibly improve our membership offer. This is a home-based role which can be flexible around your existing commitments.

We're looking for someone to help shape, deliver and report on projects using the RSPB's Project Management Framework. This role focuses on helping the Programme Manager and other team members develop and deliver projects that make a positive impact for nature.

This role could involve:

  • Helping put in place governance structure to keep projects on track.
  • Undertaking activities to deliver project outputs and objectives in accordance with project plan.
  • Working with the team, partners, and external contractors to ensure that actions are delivered to agreed standards of cost, quality and time.
  • Producing relevant project documentation as directed by the programme manager.
  • Developing and delivering appropriate communication activities - such as events, media interaction, briefings, talks.
  • Producing materials in association with communications colleagues.
  • Co-ordinating meetings and reports to the programme manager (and possibly project board).
  • Ensuring that risks and issues are highlighted to the programme manager.
  • Supporting the programme manager in managing the budget.
  • Contributing to project reviews.

Volunteers will be fully supported by the Project Manager, Project Executive and Programme Board.

You'll be trained in everything you need to know beforehand, and we'll support you in your role every step of the way.

Essential skills:

  • Prior experience of working with different stakeholders in teams.
  • Excelling written skills.
  • Strong verbal communication skills to enable presentation of project work in a credible and passionate manner.
  • Time management skills.
  • Problem-solving skills, with an ability to propose creative solutions.
  • Competent IT user (e.g. MS packages, Outlook etc).

Beneficial skills:

  • Ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.

This is a really rewarding role. You'll have the fantastic opportunity to be a part of a friendly and dedicated team and put your specialist skills to use and contribute to the effectiveness of essential RSPB project work.

You'll have the chance to meet new people across the board, such as internal stakeholders, the wider project team and local colleagues and develop strong, lasting relationships. We can also help you to develop your current skills and give you the opportunity to learn new ones.
