Visitor Engagement Family and Children Events (Education Volunteer)

We are looking for volunteers who can help deliver outdoor sessions to schools visiting RSPB Old Moor. Old Moor is a fantastic place for children to learn about and be inspired by the beautiful and amazing wildlife on the reserve. Our Schools on Reserves programme aims to give schoolchildren the chance to experience nature first-hand and by helping the group you can be part of that exciting journey of discovery!
Typical activities range from hands on exploration of meadows, woods and ponds to playing environmental games.

As an Education Volunteer working with young people, you'd be providing a friendly welcome to all of our young visitors when they arrive and helping deliver events and activities for under 18’s, including setting up and clearing away afterwards.

Full training and support will be provide for this role but you do need the following skills and experience:

• You must be a ‘people person’, who enjoys meeting new people and is a confident communicator.
• Strong facilitation skills to co-create events with children and young people, with the ability to empower them to take the lead and run events on our sites.
• An ability to adapt your communication style to be able to talk to with families with children.
• A resourceful and flexible approach to be able to cope with a wide variety of ages and abilities of children.
• The confidence and ability to lead or facilitate a fun and active day's education programme with a group of students and their teacher.
• Organisational skills, to help ensure events and activities are carried out safely.

This is a really rewarding and enjoyable role. You will be working with a friendly team on our Old Moor reserve, with the opportunity to make new friends and spend time outdoors. You will get to meet loads of new people in this role, enjoying conversation and helping people have a wonderful visit.

There is always the opportunity to learn new things and gain skills through volunteering, by working at Old Moor, you'll naturally learn all about how nature reserves are managed and the wildlife that is found there.

This role is suitable for under 18’s.
