Biosecurity Team Member (Isles of Scilly Biosecurity Team member)
An exciting opportunity to join our Biosecurity Team on the Isles of Scilly , making a direct impact for nature. The team is made up of local community members who are responsible for protecting the important seabird islands of St Agnes and Gugh predominantly (but help may also be required on other islands) by carrying out monitoring, reacting to, and removing, reported invasion of species.
You will gain valuable experience and training in biosecurity monitoring and implementation of an incursion response measures in the event of rats being detected on the islands. You will be working alongside other volunteers and RSPB staff as a team and working with the island communities.
You will need a range of skills and experience for this role including:
- Be able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, and able to cope with a high level of physical activity.
- Work as part of a team of 3-8 people to carry out the main tasks.
- Follow H&S requirements of the project.
- Be flexible and adaptable to change.
- Have a friendly disposition and be able to communicate effectively.
By being part of this vital team you will be helping to save some of our most iconic seabirds including Manx Shearwater, Storm Petrel and Puffin on the Isles of Scilly. You will gain valuable experience and high-level training in implementation of incursion response measures in the event of rats being detected on the islands. We are looking for people within the islands for this role. You will meet and work with other passionate volunteers and staff that are experts in the biosecurity field and have deep knowledge of sea birds on their islands.
