Volunteer Coordinator (Voluntary Role, Farnham Heath)

Opportunity image

We are extremely lucky to have nearly 100 skilled volunteers as part of our workforce here at RSPB Farnham and Hazeley Heaths. Without them, we would struggle to keep our reserves in tip-top condition, provide essential habitat for scarce wildlife, engage with visitors, ensure that our animals are healthy, and organise some fantastic events. If you would like to help support and coordinate our volunteer workforce, then we want to hear from you!

We are looking for an organised person with excellent communication skills to join our team.

Volunteer Coordinators can undertake a wide range of tasks including:

  • Responding to queries from potential new volunteers who get in touch.
  • Registering new volunteers on our Assemble database.
  • Being the first point of contact for our existing volunteers and answering general queries.
  • Creating and advertising new volunteer roles e.g. practical work party volunteers, events volunteers, and fire patrollers.
  • Working with our Events team to plan, execute, and review our events.
  • Organising rotas for our animal checking volunteers and recruit for these roles when necessary.
  • Attending online meetings with other volunteer co-ordinators every month to share/gain ideas and experiences.
  • Working with the Wardening team to help delivery our overall conservation goals.

You will be provided with an RSPB mobile phone and are set up with access to the RSPB computer network so you can comfortably carry out your role at home. However, we would suggest coming into the office at least once a week to have a face-to-face catch up. In-house training will also be provided such as safeguarding.

No prior experience is necessary, but beneficial skills for this role are:

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • A people person, friendly, and approachable.
  • Excellent telephone manner and written communication skills.
  • An ability to lead/inspire others and work as part of a team.
  • Creative and forward thinking.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a small team.
  • Excellent record keeper.
  • Happy to work from home or office.
  • Tact/diplomacy. This is a rewarding and enjoyable role. You will be part of a friendly team of staff and volunteers. This is a chance to gain experience in working with people of all ages and to learn new skills and develop existing ones. You will make a real difference by helping us keep the reserves well-supported by volunteers, ensuring they are safe for visitors and well-managed for wildlife.

There is room for development within the role, an opportunity to volunteer for additional days or role-share. You'd be helping to ensure that volunteers have a rewarding and enjoyable time with us. This role is a wonderful opportunity to make a genuine contribution to wildlife conservation.
