Surveyor (Not on a Reserve) (idverde Phase 1 Habitat Survey (Buddy))

Opportunity image

The RSPB and idverde, one of Europe’s largest grounds maintenance companies, have recently expanded their partnership into Northern Ireland. Coinciding with this has been the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, one of idverdes clients, formalising the process of increasing biodiversity and nature community interaction across their estate.

This is where you come in.

We need your help to complete a set number of habitat surveys over the coming months to collect essential data about various habitats to help inform the science behind our work. The data collected from these surveys will help to inform the future use of these sites, such as planting regimes, species recording and community-based events.

We are looking for 5 volunteers who are interested in developing phase 1 habitat survey skills to carry out phase 1 habitat surveys across NIHE sites in the greater Belfast and south county Antrim area.

At an induction you will be assigned areas and paired with a buddy with previous experience of carrying out phase 1 habitat survey. This induction will include a demo survey and a refresher course on habitat surveying.

You will be provided with maps of your survey area, a colour coded list of habitat types and a system to record additional notes on your survey. You will then walk across your assigned survey area(s) and record habitat types based on present floral species, ground conditions and land features.

We are looking for volunteers: -with little to no previous experience -who want to develop surveying skills -who want to work as a team -who are interested in learning more about the habitats within the Belfast and south county Antrim area -can travel within the Belfast and south county Antrim area

As with all our volunteer roles we encourage applicants from a diverse range of backgrounds.
