Do you have a passion for gardening and enjoy meeting new people? We run a wide range of events and are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer who can attend outdoor shows with us to give advice on gardening for wildlife advice to members of the public who visit our nature inspired stand.

The RSPB organises and attends a range of large outdoor shows each year, this year we will be attending Grand Designs Live, BBC Gardeners' World Live and Blenheim Palace Flower Show. Our 360 degree stand shows three different habitats; garden, woodland and coastal, and has real plants and trees around the whole stand. The aim is to engage as many people as possible about the work of the RSPB, how amazing nature is and how we need to work together to save it.

As an Events Volunteer - Gardening for wildlife/ plant expert you will speaking to members of the public and helping to answer questions they have about the plants on the stand and how they can encourage more wildlife into their gardens. Other parts of this volunteer role include:

  • Providing a friendly welcome to visitors and members of the public.
  • Having conversations with visitors and members of the public, and finding out how you can help them.
  • Talking to the public about the work of the RSPB, what we're all about and asking them if they would like to become members if the conversation takes you there. There will be a number of recruiters dotted around the stand, so if a member of the public says they would like to sign up you can pass them over to a recruiter to take things from there.
  • Ensuring the event stand is clean and tidy; leaflets are replenished, dead plants are removed
  • Watering the plants as needed
  • If you are able, attending each show the day before it opens to help plant the stand with the Events team.
  • Participating in event reviews and providing constructive feedback.

This is a rewarding role which offers the opportunity to attend a range of events, to work alongside a friendly team and to share your knowledge about gardening. You will get to meet lots of new people in this role, enjoying conversation and helping people have a great interaction with the RSPB.
