We're looking for an enthusiastic volunteer with a deep connection to the Dundee area to support development of an exciting new piece of work in the city.

As part of the RSPB's developing work in Dundee, we want you to help us get to know the city and learn about the place and existing nature connections in order to support the RSPB developing a project with people in Dundee which ultimately helps to save nature and climate.

As a Community Volunteer you’ll be able to provide others with advice and guidance about local spaces for nature and wildlife, as well as speaking to people about their hopes for nature in Dundee and learning about ongoing activities in the city.

As part of this role you will be publicising yourself as an RSPB contact in your local community. This is the first part in an ongoing journey, and the successful volunteer may like to continue to support us in the next phases of development work.

  • Part 1 - 'Desk based research' - Help us to find out what's going on in Dundee with completing research on things like existing organisations, ongoing city plans and upcoming events.
  • Part 2 - 'Out and about in the community' - Attend events, meetings and activities, speak to people in Dundee about the project and saving nature.
  • Part 3 - 'Reflection and Recommendations' - Reflect on the learnings and create recommendations for opportunities for partnerships or future project development.

The parts of this role are variable and might include some of the following tasks:

  • Finding and researching city plans
  • Meeting with community groups
  • Surveying in community connections to nature
  • Surveying into perceptions of the RSPB
  • Interviews within local communities e.g. businesses, politicians, community groups
  • Analysis of social media / news trends
  • Research into greenspace access and usage
  • Attending project meetings
  • Site visits
  • Produce briefings/reports on findings

The post is flexible for the Part 1, with the hours you work entirely up to you, but we hope to have this complete as soon as possible. You'll be supported by the Project Team working on this and will be provided with training and information for the role.

This role directly links to the RSPBs new 2030 strategy and our focus on Saving Nature Through People. We want you to be part of connecting local action to solving the international nature and climate crisis.

This role provides a brilliant opportunity to be an integral part of the RSPB's developing project in Dundee.
