During dry weather the moorlands around Dove Stone and the Longdendale Valley (Crowden and Arnfield) are vulnerable to fire due to arson, BBQs, campfires and discarded litter.

These fires are devastating to wildlife and the fragile moorland landscape and destroy the places people love and cherish. They can also endanger the lives of people and livestock.

We need volunteers to support our Fire Ranger with duties to include: high visibility patrols around Dove Stone, Crowden and Arnfield; engaging with the public around the dangers posed by campfires and BBQs; assisting with litter removal.

What do we need from you? You'll enjoy talking to our visitors taking a level-headed, calm, friendly yet confident approach. As the role requires patrolling in a variety of areas, you'll be physically fit and happy to work outside without shelter. You'll be happy to be flexible with your time there will be opportunities to volunteer on weekdays as well as weekends and bank holidays.

While the role takes place on foot, you'll need to be able to get yourself to and from the site for volunteer duties.

What's in it for you? A wonderful opportunity to play a key role in helping to prevent devastating wildfires through public engagement, litter removal and reporting of issues as they happen. An opportunity to be part of a team and gain valuable people engagement skills all while being outdoors in a beautiful landscape!

Please note you will be volunteering alongside a member of staff; this role does not require you to fight fires. Ideally you will be able to commit to one day per week especially in warm weather when there is a high fire risk and the site can be busy.
