Residential on Reserve (More than 4 weeks) (6 months at RSPB Blacktoft Sands - East Yorkshire)
Commitment:
6 Months: 01 April 2023 - 30 September 2023 (Flexible) - Full time (5 Days Per Week) - Residential
Why We Want You:
Blacktoft Sands is a large tidal reedbed containing an area of shallow brackish water lagoons (200 ha/500 acres).
We are looking for an enthusiastic residential volunteer to help with reserve management, monitoring and visitor work on this internationally important reserve.
You will be a key member of the reserve team as we go into our summer work programme. Assist with the monitoring of species such as Bittern, Marsh Harrier, Bearded Tit and Tree Sparrow. Help to manage our herd of Konik ponies and carry out estate management, species protection and visitor centre work.
What’s In It For You:
During your stay, you will become a member of the reserve management team. You will contribute to practical conservation and learn about running and managing a nature reserve working alongside experienced staff and volunteers.
This is an excellent chance to make a genuine contribution to wildlife conservation. You will gain a valuable insight into the workings of Europe’s largest conservation charity.
Training will be provided with volunteers having the opportunity to gain certificates in practical skills including Brush-cutter/Trimmer and Pesticides use. These skills will provide an excellent base from which to pursue a career in conservation. Pre-agreed expenses will be re-imbursed where necessary.
Free accommodation is provided close to the reserve and office premises.
Requirements:
You need to be aged over 18, be enthusiastic, have the ability to work as part of a team, have an interest in conservation and the willingness to have fun while taking part in practical outdoor work. A full clean driving licence is essential.
Notes:
There is no charge to take part in the scheme. It is your responsibility to cover the cost of your transport to and from the reserve, and to provide and cover the cost of your food during your stay. The RSPB will provide accommodation, together with basic services, free of charge for the period you are volunteering, and cover any expenses incurred as a necessary part of your work on the reserve
Blacktoft Sands is a covid-secure workplace and we are following and committed to government and internal guidance to ensure that the office, accommodation and reserves are safe for staff, volunteers and visitors.
Deadline:
Applications and interviews are ongoing
