If you enjoy working with data and are interested in what makes people tick, you could volunteer to help us gather information about volunteering at the RSPB.

More than 12,000 volunteers account for 85% of our workforce at the RSPB and we couldn’t do our work without them. Between them, they do around a million hours of incredible work for us. We want to enable more people from all backgrounds to be a part of that. To achieve that, we need to know more about what works and what doesn’t. This role is about finding out about different data sources. By conducting informal surveys, collating data and providing interpretations you will look at trends in volunteering, see how we are doing against national patterns, and find out more about our volunteers and those who don’t volunteer. You will make a difference to how we recruit and manage volunteers at the RSPB.

You might get involved in a variety of different tasks, for example: • Agreeing on what data will give insight into our audiences (both employees and volunteers), their behaviours and the key areas for development work • Working with key stakeholders across the organisation to obtain and work with raw data • Developing ways to gather ‘soft’ data on volunteer engagement and volunteers’ experiences • Extracting and working with data using our volunteering website, Assemble (we will train you in how to use this) • Developing reports and recommendations to inform volunteering development work • Attending meetings with colleagues during working hours, although this can be flexible to fit around you

We are looking for people with the following skills and experience: • Experience of working with internal stakeholders • Experience of developing survey questions, polls and other informal data collection methods • Excellent IT skills, particularly using spreadsheets to manipulate/examine data and presenting data • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Organisational and time management skills • Knowledge of the importance of privacy when dealing with personal data. You will be required to complete relevant training on data protection

Full training and information will be provided to help you learn about the RSPB’s volunteering development aims, and the tools available for gathering and managing data.

It doesn’t matter where you are based, you can work from home or from one of our offices. You will be part of the Volunteering Development department. We help teams across the RSPB to work well with volunteers and set volunteering policy and practice.

The role affords a unique opportunity to work with colleagues from across the organisation and develop new and lasting working relationships. You will make a difference by building our knowledge through the insights you provide so colleagues can give their best to achieving the RSPB’s strategy to 2030. You will learn all about how the RSPB works and gain experience working for an environmental charity. This role provides an excellent opportunity to donate your time and skills to have real impact on our work.

We look forward to hearing from you!
