Practical Reserve Work (Central Highland Reserves)
We are looking for work party volunteers to join the team working across our Central Highland Reserves, every other Wednesday August - April.
The team work across a suite of five reserves including Nigg Bay, Fairy Glen (Rosemarkie) and Culbin Sands. The meeting location of the work parties will change depending on where the team is most needed, we usually start at 10am and finish around 3-4pm.
As a Reserve Work Party Volunteer you will be joining a regular practical work party team to undertake practical habitat management tasks and infrastructure maintenance such as:
- Cutting and clearing vegetation e.g. gorse, broom, small trees
- Using small tools and equipment e.g. spade, hammer, saw
- Maintaining visitor infrastructure, such as paths, benches, boardwalks and hides
- Following Health and Safety protocols, e.g. manual handling, risk assessments and safe tool use.
This role may be suitable for under 18’s, please discuss with Izzy, Central Highlands Reserves Warden, in advance.
If you enjoy being outdoors, meeting new people and hands on work, then this role could be the perfect opportunity for you. This role does involve a reasonable amount of physical activity, you will need to move over wet and uneven ground and be comfortable carrying and using tools and equipment. We are a friendly and supportive team. If you are volunteering to learn new skills and gain knowledge about wildlife conservation work, you will find that our team will be more than happy to help you on that journey.
Please be aware that there are no toilets or other facilities at these reserves and there is limited public transport, particularly at Nigg & Udale Bays and Loch Ruthven.
