RSPB Team Member (Research and Design)
We want to support student placements, who are some of our next generations of employees and we want to offer them essential experience and skill development in placement opportunities during the academic year, so that when they finish their courses at college or university, they think of us when looking to apply for roles.
To help us with this aim we are looking for a volunteer with the passion to support us in developing these placements for students. We are looking for someone who enjoys researching information, can capture data and interpret it, and that has the design abilities to create interactive maps, so that we can create the tools that support our line managers with the knowledge on how to go about creating student placement opportunities.
We are flexible to your needs, do you want to spend your volunteer hours with people around you in an office environment, do you prefer to work from home and collaborate over teams calls instead, do you need specific hours due to having young children, being in education, or caring responsibilities for example? Do you have a disability or need certain reasonable adjustments in place to be able to support you in this role? If so, please do let us know, as we can make reasonable adjustments.
You will be part of a team of people all working towards the aim of developing an excellent piece of work, that supports our teams to create opportunities for students, and who will happily share ideas, and support you, and equally acknowledge your own lived experiences and expertise.
- You will need to research what Universities/colleges teach courses that align to our roles.
- Find contacts at those Universities/colleges and discover if they have work experience modules or advocate placement opportunities for students during the academic year.
- Build a list/spreadsheet of universities/colleges contacts, lengths, and times of placement opportunities.
- Seek knowledge of whether funding is available from universities/colleges (or any other funding opportunities) to support students on placements.
- Have technical knowledge of and know how to create an interactive map or tool that line managers can use to see what universities or colleges are near them and what the potential links are with our work so that they can develop suitable placement opportunities that correspond.
- Attend team meetings and take away small tasks.
- Engaging with the team, universities and all involved in the work, to manage their enquiries.
- Monitoring and recording work on spreadsheets.
This role will require some key skills: • A passion for research and data capture • Knowledge and ability in creating useable interactive maps or similar. • Confident talking to people outside of the team • Be proactive and creative. • Microsoft Suite (excel, office, etc)
This is a rewarding role that offers the opportunity to support the RSPB in a big way. You'll find satisfaction in making a genuine contribution to nature conservation. You will learn all about how the RSPB works and gain experience working for an environmental charity.
We like to think we're a friendly and welcoming team, so you'll have the opportunity to make new friends too.
