The Orkney Native Wildlife Project is a partnership project between NatureScot, RSPB, Orkney Island Council, EULife and the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Our purpose is to remove the non-native invasive stoat from Orkney and protect its native wildlife. You can find more information about who we are and what we do at www.orkneynativewildlife.org.uk.

We are looking for volunteers to join some of our key functional teams to help grow our capacity. This role is all about taking on a few tasks as part of an existing team at the Orkney Native Wildlife Project. The tasks will vary depending on which team is looking for support, but this can range from undertaking research, working alongside trappers to monitoring our native species. By working together we can achieve and do more for nature.

Volunteer tasks will vary greatly depending on the specific role, but it may include some of the following:

  • Taking on a few stoat traps that you check every 2-3 weeks.
  • Monitoring local wildlife during our set seasons.
  • Office work inputting data.

This role will require some key general skills, but please note that we will offer full training and induction into this particular area. You may need some experience in the area depending on what it is. The list below is just a suggestion and obviously this will be dependent on the role that you decide to undertake.

  • IT skills, creating documents, managing spreadsheets.
  • Be physically active and able to walk across difficult terrain.
  • Organisational skills.

This is a rewarding role that offers the opportunity to support the ONWP in a big way. You'll find satisfaction in making a genuine contribution to nature conservation. You will learn all about how the ONWP works and gain experience working for an environmental charity.

We like to think we're a friendly and welcoming team, so you'll have the opportunity to make new friends too.
