Visitor Engagement Volunteer (On Reserves) (Visitor Engagement RSPB Arne)
The RSPB manages a big network of nature reserves which are havens for wildlife, and importantly very special places for people of all ages and abilities to visit and experience a nature rich landscape.
We believe that nature is for everyone and we need friendly, enthusiastic people to welcome and engage with every visitor to Arne whether at our welcome area or out on the reserve.
We are looking for volunteers who can help with visitor engagement activities, out on the reserve and in our welcome area including occasional carpark cover and willingness to encompass all detailed roles.
As a Visitor Engagement Volunteer you will undertake some of the following tasks and roles can vary from day to day, something that makes volunteering here so interesting and rewarding. The tasks might include some of the following:
- Provide a friendly welcome to visitors wherever you are volunteering, on the reserve or in the hides or at the welcome area.
- Having conversations with visitors , chatting about their interests and finding out how you can help them enjoy their visit, whether that's pointing out where the café is or where they can see wildlife.
- Ensuring the welcome area is clean and tidy, leaflets are replenished, and information boards are up to date.
- Help when needed at busy times with car park cover
You don't need to be a wildlife expert or even a birdwatcher, what is important is that you have an interest in and can engage with people and get them enthusiastic about nature . the following skills are important
- you must be a ‘people person’ and have good communication skills -An ability to adapt your communication style to be able to talk to families with children and people of all ages and backgrounds -Attention to detail -Positive in outlook and cheerful
This is a really rewarding and enjoyable role. You will be working with a friendly team on a beautiful nature reserve, you will have the opportunity to make new friends and spend time outdoors. You will get to meet loads of new people in this role, enjoying conversation and helping people have a wonderful visit. There is always the opportunity to learn new things and gain skills through volunteering, by working on a reserve, you'll naturally learn all about how nature reserves are managed and the wildlife that is found there. We realise that family time is precious so if families would like to volunteer as a group ( children need to be over 12) we would love to receive your applications . The 1st interviews were held on 16th January 2024 and for later applicants the interviews will be in advised to you later in March The role of volunteering as a Family at weekends and school holidays is open to all families with children over 12.
