Residential on Reserve (Less than 4 weeks) (Titchwell- Visitor Engagement)
Available from 27 April 2024 to 2 November 2024
Titchwell Marsh and Snettisham are outstanding nature reserves along the north Norfolk coast. Each has a landscape of diverse habitats and an abundance of wildlife. Snettisham reserve is home to two of nature's most enthralling avian spectacles; the whirling waders and sunrise flights of Pink-footed Geese. Set against the stunning backdrop of the wider Wash, both reserves are prime destinations for birders, nature lovers and families.
This placement is ideal if you are interested in working within hospitality and tourism or would like visitor experience to support a warden or ranger role within the conservation sector. You will assist with all aspects of visitor engagement from welcoming people on arrival, to helping deliver events and ensuring our reserve always looks its best. Our events program attracts visitors from across the country, those new to nature and those who are already nature lovers. We cater for families, schools, community groups and individual visitors.
Full training and support will be provided, but you do need to be a ‘people person’ and have effective communication skills. You must be over 18 years of age to apply, and the recommended placement period is a minimum of two weeks (maximum four weeks). Placements are available from May to the end of October.
Our reserves can be fast-paced and you will need to adapt quickly to the changing needs of both the business and reserve workload. You should possess the following attributes:
• Enjoy working as part of a team.
• Willing to be flexible and take on different tasks as and when needed.
• Prior customer service experience is preferable
• Own transport is useful but not essential
You will benefit from free accommodation in our three-bedroom cottage overlooking the sea. You will have your own double bedroom but will need to supply your own bedding or sleeping bag, towels, drinks and food. You will have shared use of the lounge, dining room, kitchen and bathroom with up to two other volunteers. The cottage is a ten-minute walk from the reserve, on-site parking is available, and the cottage has free Wi-Fi.
Please do not tick 'willing to share' unless you are applying as a couple.
