RSPB Team Member (Youth Coordinator)
Why we want you
Our vision is a shared world where wildlife, wild places, and all people thrive. We bring people together who love birds and other wildlife, and who want to do something to restore the health and diversity of the natural world. We also enable more people to take positive action for nature. We are looking for volunteers who can help us ensure that young people are a core part of our development as an organisation, and to have their voices heard in the environmental movement. Through this role, you will support the Youth Mobilisation team with their work, and ensure that we can make change with, through and for young people.
You will work closely with the current groups of young people existing within the organisation, particularly the RSPB Youth Council and youth groups, and support them. You will also be helping the Youth Mobilisation team connect even more young people to the RSPB and find new ways to support young people in their efforts to take action for nature and have a say in our work.
What you will be doing
This work will vary greatly depending on the ongoing projects at the time. Some examples of potential tasks you will be undertaking are:
- Attending team meetings and taking notes;
- Undertaking research;
- Bringing new ideas for how we can engage young people in the RSPB;
- Supporting the Youth Mobilisation team and the young people we collaborate with to create projects and campaigns which engage young people;
- Creating content to inspire young people;
- Facilitating meetings with the Youth Council;
- Bringing new perspectives to our team;
- Organising events and meetings;
- Ensuring good communication between the Youth Mobilisation team and the young people we work with, including the Youth Council and our Youth Groups;
- Creating a safe and inclusive space for young people.
The skills you need
This role will require some key general skills, but please note that we will offer full training and induction so that you can have the best experience possible with our team. Skills which could be useful are:
- Compassion - It is essential that you can understand the opinions and thoughts of the young people we engage with, and provide a safe space for them;
- IT skills, creating documents, managing spreadsheets;
- Organisational skills - notetaking, setting up meetings, contacting people and time management;
- Good understanding of social media and content creation.
