Event Helper (Young Volunteer Scheme, St Aidan's)
Our Young Volunteers Scheme aims to give young people aged 12-18 an introduction to the RSPB and to volunteering with us. It will help your understanding of the wide range of work involved in our reserves in the Aire Valley. We are now recruiting for the next group.
The scheme is 12 weeks, usually at weekends or possibly midweek during school holidays, for around 2-3hrs per week and can be an introduction to more regular volunteering in a suitable role afterwards.
If you are undertaking the Duke of Edinburgh Award this will give you all that you need for your volunteering experience element.
What will you be doing?
After a short introduction session you will spend time doing several of our volunteer roles, including Welcoming Visitors, helping in our Little Owl Café, out on the reserve with some of our adult Volunteer Rangers and helping with our family events such as our 'Community Muck In’ days (doing practical tasks on the reserve) and Litter Picks.
What we need from you:
- To get involved! Making a commitment to the scheme once a week for the 12 weeks and actively completing the tasks associated with the role you are undertaking that shift.
- You will need to be able to interact with the public, being polite and friendly with visitors
- An interest in nature and St Aidan's.
- You will need to undertake some preparatory online training for the café role in advance of your first shift there.
- Your parents will be given full information about the scheme and will need to give their consent to your participation.
What's in it for you?
You will be volunteering with a great team working for nature in the Aire Valley. Volunteering with us is fun, we want you to enjoy your time with us, to increase your understanding of nature, the work of the RSPB, the Aire Valley and why conservation is so important. We hope it will inspire you for the future. It will also help your confidence, give you valuable experience, skills and knowledge and help with future applications for college, university and work. You will receive a certificate to show you have completed the scheme and we can complete any DoE documentation required.
Thank you for reading this description of the role. Clicking on ‘more about this role’ will take you to the generic ‘role profile’ which informs the vetting and training requirements, however will not give you any more detail in this case.
