RSPB Team Member (Videographer)

Opportunity image

What's the opportunity?

We’re looking for a talented videographer to help us capture what matters to our members via a series of short videos captured at face-to-face events through summer 2024. This role is crucial in helping us tell the stories of our members; why they joined the RSPB and their experiences of their membership. You will be a key part of helping us grow the RSPB’s membership and continue the fight for nature’s future.

The videos you capture will be used internally and externally to highlight the value of our members and show how crucial they are to the continuation of our work. Videos will contribute to the increased internal understanding and appreciation of RSPB membership. This is an important step towards improving the member experience.

You don’t need to be a nature or conservation expert. As long as you have enthusiasm, practical experience, and can bring our messaging to life in film, we’d love to hear from you.

What will you be doing?

This role is all about filming members of the public, capturing their experience of RSPB membership and what it means to them. We’ll pair you up with an interviewer who will be posing questions to our members; it’ll be your job to capture their answers on film and edit the videos for use across RSPB platforms.

You’ll be:

  • Producing a series of short videos featuring a diverse range of people discussing their experiences as RSPB members.
  • Attending 1-3 (depending on your availability) shows throughout the summer, filming interviews with members at event stands.
  • Working closely with an interviewer throughout the filming process.
  • Liaising with the project manager to understand technical and creative specs.
  • Editing what you capture into brief videos suitable for different platforms, adding subtitles or captions to meet accessibility guidelines.

What's in it for you?

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with the UK’s largest conservation charity on an exciting upcoming membership project. Our members help us restore, protect and care for the places our wildlife call home. This project is key in helping us achieve our membership goals for 2030 so that we can continue helping birds and other animals thrive.

As our videographer, you’ll:

  • Spend the day meeting others who are passionate about nature.
  • Contribute to a key membership project for the UK’s largest conservation charity, helping us reach more potential members and continue our work to save nature.
  • Produce a set of videos that can be used in your portfolio.
  • Have the opportunity to collaborate and contribute creatively.

What skills and experience do you need?

Essential:

  • Video portfolio featuring people (it’s okay if this is small!).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to put people at ease.
  • Good technical understanding of filming, i.e., composition, framing.
  • Willingness to work outdoors.
  • Strong competence with editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro.

Desirable:

  • Access to filming equipment including a camera and microphone (sorry, no camera phones!).
  • Knowledge of video formats for different platforms.
  • Knowledge of accessibility guidelines for video production.
  • Related qualification in film/video production.
