Visitor Centre Welcome (Fairburn Ings Nature Reserve)
We believe that nature is for everyone and we need friendly enthusiastic people to help us to welcome every visitor to Fairburn Ings. This Welcome role is a vital part of our team, as the first person visitors meet, you will help to provide them with all the information that they need to get the most from and enjoy their visit. You will be telling them about what nature they can see and any activities that they can participate in. You will also inspire and encourage support the work of the RSPB, through membership, volunteering and donations.
Main Duties: To greet people as they enter the reserves and give our visitors a great welcome Chat about their interests and help them to get the most from their visit. Tell them more about the site and inform them about what nature they can see. Help to promote activities on our sites, educate and inspire visitors about the conservation work the RSPB does locally and nationally and share our success stories. Help to grow support for the RSPB and thank and continue to enthuse existing members for the support they give. Be comfortable talking to people about how they can support the RSPB, helping us gain more support and allowing us to do more for nature. You will usually be based outside at our Welcome Shelter, often alongside a member of our membership recruitment team. You don't need to be a wildlife expert or even a birdwatcher, what is important is that you have an interest in nature, our site and the RSPB and can engage with people and get them enthusiastic about nature. You will be able to positively interact with people of all ages and backgrounds. You will be keen and able to assist people to get the most from their visit and comfortable in asking for support for the RSPB.
This is a really rewarding and enjoyable role. You will be working with a friendly team on a beautiful nature reserve, you will have the opportunity to make new friends. You will get to meet lots of new people, enjoy conversations and help people have a wonderful visit.
You can claim your travel expenses when volunteering, and you will be provided with a uniform and all the resources and training you need to undertake your role. You will have opportunities to learn new things and gain new skills and to learn about our reserves and the wildlife that is found here. You will need to undertake some essential online training, either at home or on site and you will be supported by a line manager and have lots of opportunity to discuss your role with them.
