RSPB Team Member (Online Librarian)
Are you an exceptional organiser?
We are looking for volunteers to join our Volunteering Development Team, to help make sure our online libraries for volunteers and their managers are up to date and information is easy to find. Help us enable volunteers and their managers to spend less time looking and more time doing their key work.
Whilst you’ll be based at home, you will work closely with colleagues from the RSPB’s Headquarters team with the choice of joining in with meetings and social activities from time to time.
You will be mainly working with SharePoint and/or our volunteering management system, Assemble. Volunteer tasks may include some of the following: • Reviewing/monitoring current library catalogues, to spot out of date, missing or incorrectly stored information. • Assigning metadata to documents to make sure they are logged in a way that is easy for people to find and use. • Uploading, moving or removing documents in agreement with the team’s Information Management Lead. • Showing colleagues how to upload and manage documents online. • Coordinating the work being done on documents that need to be revised, removed or created by allocating and following up on tasks. • Creating keywords and tags to help people find what they need. • Scheduling when documents will be next due for review • There is also the opportunity to get involved in the building of new digital libraries and deciding how the contents will be catalogued in the most user-friendly way.
We will offer full training and induction for the activities we ask you to do. This would be an ideal role for you if you have: • Good IT skills. Can create Word documents and manage Excel spreadsheets using Microsoft 365 desktop and online. • Familiarity with SharePoint, library systems, or other information management systems (not essential but are a huge plus!) • Good organisation skills and attention to detail.
Most important of all is your enthusiasm for keeping things organised!
This is a rewarding role that offers the opportunity to support the RSPB in a big way. Volunteers are essential to the RSPB. By making sure we have good information management that enables volunteering across the organisation, you can take satisfaction that you are making a genuine contribution to nature conservation whilst gaining experience of working in the charity sector.
We are a friendly and welcoming team of paid employees and volunteers. We’d love you to join our team working hard to make the experiences of the RSPB’s 13,000 plus volunteers the best it can be.
