Biosecurity Team Member (North East England)

An exciting opportunity to join our local Biosecurity Team, making a direct impact for nature in North East England. The Incursion Response Team are responsible for protecting the seabird islands of Coquet and the Farne Islands by reacting to, and removing, any invasive non-native mammalian predators that manage to reach these islands before they predate on seabird eggs or chicks.

You will gain valuable experience and training in implementation of incursion response measures in the event of an invasive predator being detected on the islands. You will be working alongside other volunteers and nature conservation staff as a team.

You will need a range of skills and experience for this role including:

  • Be able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, and able to cope with a high level of physical activity.
  • Work as part of a team of 3-8 people to carry out the main tasks.
  • Follow H&S requirements of the project.
  • Be flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Have a friendly disposition and be able to communicate effectively with people.

By being part of this vital team you will be helping to save some of our most iconic seabirds including Roseate Tern, Common Tern, Arctic Tern and Puffin in some of the most spectacular locations in the UK. You will gain valuable experience and high-level training in implementation of incursion response measures in the event of an invasive predator being detected on the islands. You will meet and work with other passionate volunteers and staff that are experts in the biosecurity field and have a deep knowledge of sea birds.
