We are looking for Youth Group Junior Leaders! This is an exciting opportunity to become a role model to help inspire other young people to grow their love of wildlife and take action to save nature. As a junior leader you will be part of a team of enthusiastic adult leaders offering young people opportunities to get to know the wild places close to them. Our youth groups are fun and sociable, helping young people to discover and learn new things and become champions for nature.

As a Youth Group Junior Leader Volunteer you will be:

  • Part of a team to support the designing, planning and delivery of a programme of monthly outdoor activities and meetings that give young people opportunities to connect with and take and for nature through site visits, practical conservation tasks and outdoor learning.
  • Inspiring other young people about nature, and helping them find out more during the activities.
  • Sharing your thoughts and ideas with rest of the volunteer team to make the sessions even better.

Junior leaders usually spend 3-4 hours a month attending meetings and preparing ideas depending on what activities are planned.

In terms of the skills and experience you need:

  • You must be aged 14 - 17 to be a junior leader.
  • Great communication skills with other young people and volunteers.
  • Ideas, commitment and passion to help create and run engaging sessions.
  • Willingness to get involved, learn new skills and attend training.
  • Able to be a great ambassador for the RSPB in your local area.

This role offers you the opportunity to use your skills and experiences, as well as your passion for nature whilst being part of the largest conservation charity in Europe. Not only this, but you will have opportunity to further develop your own skills and experiences, for example, leadership, teamwork and organisation skills. You will also have access to the RSPB suite of training packages to support your personal development and we will be available to support you along the way. An induction and relevant training will be provided, and we will be able to offer you ongoing support to further develop the skills you need for this role.
