Café Volunteer
We depend on volunteers to help us run our Pulborough Brooks Café. The café is a vital part of our site and by volunteering here you will be supporting all the conservation work that we do, as profits from the café go straight back into helping nature.
The role includes: • Welcoming all visitors with a smile • Serving customers hot and cold drinks and the sale of refreshments • Clearing tables and cleaning duties • Talking to customers about our food and drink options • Maintaining cleanliness standards and health and safety codes of practice • Helping visitors find seating and answering their questions • Delivering excellent customer service • Operating the till • Keeping things stocked up and developing good product knowledge • Depending on your shift, assist in setting up and opening the cafe and/or clearing up at the end of the day and closing the café • Ensuring every visitor enjoys their visit and leaves with a positive impression of Pulborough Brooks.
Key skills and attributes: • You will be approachable and friendly, with an outgoing personality and have good people skills. • Be able to work as part of team. • Be willing to learn. • Be organised and have a basic knowledge of customer service.
Volunteering in our café means you will be working with a friendly team on a beautiful nature reserve where you will have the opportunity to make new friends, meet lots of new people, enjoy conversations and help people have a wonderful visit.
You will be provided with a uniform and all the resources and training you need to undertake your role. You will have opportunities to learn new things, gain new skills and to learn about our reserves and the wildlife that is found here. You will need to undertake some essential online training, either at home or on site and you will be supported by a line manager and have lots of opportunities to discuss your role with them.
If you enjoy meeting new people or would like to learn new skills, receive training and gain experience working in the hospitality industry, including great transferable skills, such as customer service, diplomacy, people engagement, following health and safety protocols this role could be for you. It is suitable for volunteers under 18 years of age.
Café team volunteers volunteer on a rota to cover the needs of the site, this could be from just a few hours a week.
