RSPB Team Member (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Staff Network Co-ordinator)
Are you passionate about making nature conservation and access to the outdoors and wildlife equitable for everyone? We want the RSPB to be a place where people of all abilities, backgrounds, ages and identities can thrive. Our staff networks and support groups play a vital role in supporting and connecting colleagues and celebrating diversity within the RSPB.
Unfortunately our online application system is playing up so if you're interested in finding out more but are having difficulties applying please email: EDI@rspb.org.uk Thank you.
The RSPB’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) team is looking for volunteers to help support our staff networks, support groups and network of “EDI Champions” by facilitating online meetings, collaboration and events for strategic national/ global awareness days/ months e.g. Pride, Black History Month...
In this volunteer role you would provide the networks with support to develop and grow, which over time will help drive EDI progress throughout the organisation.
You would volunteer remotely (working from home) within the EDI team and be line managed by the EDI Manager. You would join regular team meetings, as well as monthly EDI Champion and Network meetings to provide regular catch ups and support for you in the role. We’re looking for someone to volunteer 1-3 days a week, but those hours can be flexible to work around your own commitments. It would be an excellent role for you if you’re looking to develop EDI knowledge and experience.
Potential Tasks
• Provide support to networks where needed by organising meetings, budgets, and schedules.
• In collaboration with network leads, co-ordinate events such as lunchtime “spotlight” talks, training sessions & external speakers, especially to coincide with the awareness days calendar.
• Helping to co-ordinate content from staff network members to be used in intranet articles, blogs etc.
• Build relationships with smaller networks to offer co-ordinator support if necessary and suggest areas of collaboration with larger networks.
• Providing support to networks to grow their area of influence, raising awareness of networks and their role within the wider organisation.
Skills and experience that a person in this role would benefit from:
• Administrative skills e.g. organising meetings, talks etc.
• IT skills e.g. able to work online, able to use word, excel etc. Confidence with video calls and MS Teams to volunteer from home effectively, creating documents, managing spreadsheets, working with our digital content team
• Event co-ordination skills, especially online events.
• Inclusive communication skills e.g. building relationships with people from marginalised communities. Building relationships with and between networks which include colleagues from across the RSPB
• Helpful to have a knowledge of what staff networks are and their benefits to organisations.
• Organisational/ Project management skills – The ability to work independently to manage your own tasks and time, with the support of our wider team. You can apply your project management skills to aid the conservation sector.
• Any knowledge/ experience of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion would be excellent so you could bring some skills or expertise to this role, but this is not critical.
This is a great opportunity to support the RSPB to make significant change and improve the experience for colleagues. You will also learn about how the RSPB works and gain experience working for an environmental charity and make tangible contributions to EDI progress and cultural change in a big organisation.
We would welcome applications from volunteers in any location within the UK and from anyone who feels they would be a good fit for this role.
If you need any additional support with any part of the application, please get in touch.
The RSPB is committed to making our organisation diverse and inclusive and, as such, are keen to encourage applications from people of all ethnic backgrounds, as well as those with disabilities. We believe volunteering shouldn’t leave you out of pocket, so will reimburse travel expenses.
We look forward to hearing from you!
