Event Helper (Girlguiding North West England - Manchester)
RSPB has recently begun working with Girlguiding North West England to offer more opportunities to connect with nature across the region. On 29th March 2025 we have invited Rainbows, Brownies and Guides (aged 5-14) to take part in a nature event in Heaton Park. On the 10th May 2025 we will be hosting a similar nature event at Burton Mere, close to Cheshire and Liverpool. We are looking for volunteers to help set up and facilitate a range of nature-themed activities, and to share their enthusiasm and knowledge with the attendees. This is a great opportunity to help young people access their local green space, to deepen their connection with nature, and encourage them to look after it for the future.
What you will be doing
Providing a friendly welcome to the girls and their leaders. Helping to set up and facilitate a nature connection activity. These activities will include woodlands exploration, plant and animal ID, pond dipping, and natural arts and crafts. We hope to assign you a task that caters to your own interests and strengths. Helping to tidy up at the end of the day. Encouraging the girls to see nature in a positive light, as something that can benefit their physical and mental wellbeing.
The skills you need
You do not need to be a wildlife expert for this role. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with young people and is a confident communicator. The ability to work in partnership with the event organiser and the Girlguiding group leaders to make sure the girls have a fun and safe day. Comfortable working outside all day.
Additional information Over 18's only. If you are interested in applying for this role we will hold an initial interview over telephone or video chat. Around a week before the date of the event we will hold another video meeting to go through health and safety procedures and any activity-specific training. There may be an opportunity for this to be a site visit recce. You will be able to claim reasonable expenses to cover your travel and food for the day. This is a rewarding role which offers the opportunity to work alongside a friendly team and spend time outdoors. You will get to meet loads of new people in this role, enjoying conversation and helping people have a great interaction with the RSPB. There is always the opportunity to learn new things and gain skills through volunteering.
