Residential on Reserve (More than 4 weeks) (Reserve Warden Trainee)
This role will provide the volunteer with the experience of living and working on one of the RSPB's premier and oldest reserves. Working with the team across a range of habitats in a very varied role from grassland to seabird islands and reedbed to the weird and wacky vegetated shingle we can guarantee this role holder will be immersed in this wonderful reserve. Its an exciting time to join the team as we rejuvenate and reinvigorate this magical place for wildlife and an inspirational visitor haven.
We are looking for someone to volunteer with us for 6 months,- (extension to 12 months is possible) with accommodation included. This role will provide the candidate with the practical skills and species/habitat knowledge required to undertake a practical reserve management role in the UK. Some training is provided and the exact courses can be discussed upon interview. It is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to take their first step into the conservation sector or to carry out their placement year at university.
This role will also provide the opportunity to occasionally help out at our sister site on Worth Marshes, one of the most exciting nature reserves in the country.
Due to the remote location of the reserve, the successful candidate must be comfortable living in a remote location and hold a valid UK driving licence. We also recommend the candidate have some experience of volunteering on a nature reserve
There is no charge to take part in the scheme. It is your responsibility to cover the cost of your transport to and from the reserve, and to provide and cover the cost of your food during your stay. The RSPB will provide accommodation, together with basic services, free of charge for the period you are volunteering, and cover any expenses incurred as a necessary part of your work on the reserve
