RSPB York Local Group University Ambassador

The RSPB is the UK's largest conservation charity with over 200 nature reserves. Our RSPB Local Groups are made up of amazing people from local communities who are passionate about saving nature. Local Group volunteers lead a range of activities from outdoor walks and indoor talks to fundraising events and conservation projects. They also work to help inspire, educate and mobilise more people to connect to and save their local wildlife and nature. There are over 120 groups across the UK with a variety of skills and expertise.

We need someone who will help to involve university students with our York local group, working with student societies and other university organisations to form connections. Our group is keen to share their wealth of knowledge about nature and learn from others.

What you will be doing: • Becoming a volunteer with your local RSPB group. • Acting as an ambassador for the local group and the RSPB at the university and liaising between the local group and the university. • Having access to RSPB news and information which you will share within the university. • Helping to arrange joint events with the RSPB local group, including trips to nature reserves, talks on nature and conservation, and practical activities like bird surveys and conservation work. • Ensuring that someone can fill the role when you move on from university.

The skills you need:

  • You don’t need to be a bird expert, but you should have an interest in nature and
  • conservation.
  • Have good communication skills and an ability to work with others.
  • Be well organised and able to arrange events.
  • Enthusiasm for helping the RSPB to reach new audiences.

What’s in it for you:

  • The chance to meet new people and share a common interest in protecting
  • nature.
  • Learning about nature from the experienced naturalists in our groups, finding out
  • more about the work of the RSPB and gaining new skills.
  • Training and support from the RSPB local group and RSPB staff.

If this sounds right for you, we'd love to hear from you. You can find out more about the RSPB York local group on their website.
