Biosecurity Team Leader (Orkney Native Wildlife Project)

An exciting opportunity to join our Biosecurity Team, making a direct impact for nature. The Incursion Response Team are responsible for protecting Orkney's stoat free islands by reacting to, and removing, reported invasion of stoats.

You will be completing regular training ‘drills’ on incursion response including how to place and monitor camera traps as well as DOC200 spring traps. You will be deployed at short notice on islands where an incursion has occurred to survey the land, collect data work with the Incursion Leader to respond to the incursion appropriately. You will be working alongside ONWP staff and other volunteers, as well as working with the island communities.

You will need a range of skills and experience for this role including:

  • Be able to follow the procedures required for the removal of stoats and learn the necessary monitoring skills required.
  • Be able to attend training.
  • Have general administration and IT skills to enable rota management and communication with the ONWP Biosecurity Officer.
  • Ability to identify the Health and Safety requirements of the project.
  • Work as part of a team of people to carry out the main tasks.
  • Be flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Have a friendly disposition and be able to communicate effectively with islanders.
