Visitor Engagement Family and Children Events (Community Engagement Volunteer St Aidan’s)
Do you have a passion for connecting people with nature and their local green space? Would you like to inspire families, young people and adults about the amazing wildlife we have here at St Aidan’s? Can you help engage our local community to take action for nature in the Aire Valley?
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who can assist and support the work of our Community Engagement Officer both onsite at St Aidan’s and out and about in the local community.
We'd love to hear from people with a sense of adventure and fun, experience of working with children and families and some wildlife knowledge (although this can certainly be learnt "on the job"). We're especially looking for people who are available at weekends and during school holidays, when most of our community events take place.
Main Tasks to include
-
Assisting with a wide range of onsite community events e.g. litter picks, muck-in days, guided walks, family activities, community group visits, conservation tasks. To include setting up activities and clearing away after the events.
-
Assisting at a wide range of outreach events e.g. community events, school fetes, community galas, children’s Breeze events, old people’s coffee mornings, talks and other engagement activities. To include setting up stalls (gazebo & tables), having conversations with the public about activities and events that are happening at St Aidan’s and the work of the RSPB, engaging the public in ‘hands-on activities’ – these may be aimed particularly at children.
-
Within this role there are opportunities for volunteers to develop their volunteering in the direction that they would like it to take them, for example working with older people, families and children or young people. There are also opportunities to help our Community Engagement Officer develop and deliver further programmes of outreach events and activities both on and off site.
We are looking for volunteers who are:
- Confident and enjoy meeting and chatting to new people of all ages.
- Reliable and committed.
- Enthusiastic about nature and wildlife and keen to engage and inspire families, young people and adults of all ages.
- Willing to learn new skills.
- Able to work outdoors adapting to the challenges of the British weather!
This is a very rewarding and enjoyable role. You will be working with a friendly team in a beautiful nature park and will have the opportunity to make new friends and spend time outdoors. Volunteering with us can fit around a part time job, higher education courses and family life. We supply a uniform and reimburse your travel expenses, up to 25 miles each way. You will have opportunities to learn new things, gain new skills and to learn about our reserves and the wildlife that is found here. You will need to undertake some essential online training, either at home or on site and you will be supported by a line manager and have opportunities to discuss your role with them.
The RSPB is committed to making our organisation diverse and inclusive, and, as such, are keen to encourage applications from everyone, of all ethnic backgrounds, as well as those with disabilities.
