We are looking for Youth Volunteer Leaders to help run the South East England Youth Nature Network for 18-25 year-olds.

The Youth Nature Network is a group for young people who want to learn about wildlife, develop skills, take part in practical conservation tasks, advocate for nature, and meet like-minded people. It is open to young people living in and around London, Essex and Kent. Because of our geographical spread, events are a mixture of online meetings and in-person practical sessions.

Each month we hold an online meeting where we invite an external speaker to discuss a conservation or nature topic. We also hold monthly in-person meet ups at RSPB Rainham Marshes, as well as ad hoc volunteering opportunities and work parties at various sites in the region, such as Canvey Wick and Northward Hills.

This role carries a bit of responsibility, we are looking for a volunteer who will genuinely lead, plan and prepare for practical work parties, ensuring risk assessments are followed and the activity is well organised so the young people can work safely and learn new skills. Being a leader is more than giving instructions and ticking checklists, it's about providing motivation and being willing to share your knowledge and skills.

For this role you need:

  • Excellent communication skills; the ability to adapt language and approach for young audiences.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate young people.
  • Experience working with young people is important. We'd also welcome young volunteer leaders to join the team.

This is a really rewarding role and offers the opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience. You will be working with a friendly team on a beautiful nature reserve, you will have the opportunity to make new friends and spend time outdoors. You will be making a significant contribution to saving nature by being a true inspiration for young people; you might be responsible for them gaining new skills, confidence working outdoors and learning about nature.
