RSPB Team Member (Aire Valley Social Media Assistant)
We believe that RSPB Aire Valley, Fairburn Ings Nature Reserve and St Aidan's Nature Park are brilliant places to visit, whatever your age or level of wildlife knowledge. We are looking for volunteers to support us with social media and help us to keep our online activity up to date and looking great. You will be helping to spread the word, via social media posts, press releases and communications. Social media is widely used by the public who are planning trips out, or just for keeping up to date with events and activities at favourite destinations. Increasingly people use social media as a way of asking questions before their visit, so you will be helping people plan their brilliant day out too. Keeping our social media pages up to date is important.
Main tasks
- At an allocated time, check our social media for comments and messages and respond in a timely and appropriate manner
- Help to write and edit posts about activities, events and seasonal interest on the reserve for use on Social Media.
- Work closely with the Visitor Experience Manager to ensure posts are current, timely and accurate etc.
- Keep up to date with wildlife news, events and activities in the Aire Valley by talking to the staff and volunteers at both sites for ideas.
- Work to agreed standards and ensure our social media maintains expected quality.
What you need:
- Good knowledge and experience of using social media platforms
- Excellent written communication skills
- Diplomacy and tact.
- Ability to work independently and use own initiative.
- Interest in nature, the Aire Valley, or both!
- Able to make a commitment to at least one shift per week and work flexibly.
As a social media volunteer you will get to find out and influence how visitors feel about the Aire Valley and their visit. You will be given full training and support around how to respond to comments and questions on social media and will need to undertake some online training. You will also be able to access our learning and development programme to enhance your knowledge and skills. and will have regular meetings with and support from your line manager. You will be working in one of our office bases, and may be able to undertake some of the role from home. We believe volunteering shouldn’t leave you out of pocket, so will reimburse travel expenses. You will be allocated a line manager and will have support and regular opportunities to discuss your role with this person.
The RSPB is committed to making our organisation diverse and inclusive, and, as such, are keen to encourage applications from everyone, however unfortunately this role is not suitable for anyone under 18.
