Do you enjoy meeting new people and spending time in beautiful surroundings? We are looking for people who can enjoy engaging with our visitors and help them to make the most out of their visit.

Arne is such a beautiful, special place that we want our visitors to enjoy it too. We want them to have the best day possible when they visit and are looking for volunteers who can help them make the most of their visit.

You don't need to be an expert - it's more about showing them where they can get the best views of the amazing wildlife that lives here , or pointing them in the direction of the cafe for a cup of tea or showing them the optics which could enhance their visit. As one of our welcome volunteers you will undertake the following tasks

  • provide a friendly face wherever you are volunteering that day , out on the reserves, in a hide, or at the information hub by the shop,
  • having conversations with our visitors and finding out how you can help them enjoy their visit and support the sales of optics at the shop -helping with our events and activities -talking to the public about the work of the RSPB -being a guide in a hide using RSPB optics
  • ensuring our information hub is kept clean and tidy

We are looking for volunteers who can help with all our visitor engagement activities, from speaking to Visitors when the arrive at the Information hub , to leading events and activities and supporting optic sales through demonstrating the use of binoculars. Our events and activities are aimed at all age ranges from families, new to nature and those who are already nature lovers. We have several large events in a year including Pull a Pine and Wild Sleep outs

You can choose a half day or full day shift to fit around your commitments but we do expect as a minimum 2 booked shifts a month and currently we primarily need volunteers on a Tuesday or Saturday. This role will really suit you if you are a people person and can adapt your style to a diverse range of visitors. Full training and support will be provided for this role and everyone after initial training must attend an Induction session with our Senior Management team the first of which will take place on Friday 11th July.

You do need the following skills and experience:

  • You must be a ‘people person’, who enjoys meeting new people and is a confident communicator.

  • An ability to adapt your communication style to be able to talk to a diverse mix of visitors including families with children.

  • Attention to detail.

-must be flexible and willing to do anything that management needs doing on any particular day

  • Organisational skills, to help ensure events and activities are carried out safely.

This is a really rewarding and enjoyable role. You will be working with a friendly team on a beautiful nature reserve, you will have the opportunity to make new friends and spend time outdoors. You will get to meet loads of new people in this role, enjoying conversation and helping people have a wonderful visit.

There is always the opportunity to learn new things and gain skills through volunteering, by working on a reserve, you will naturally learn all about how nature reserves are managed and the wildlife that is found there.
