Visitor Engagement Volunteer (On Reserves) (Saltholme Guide)
RSPB Saltholme is one of the RSPB’s visitor havens with over 50,000 visitors each year and is a triple Visit England Gold Award winner. We have high standards of customer care to ensure every visitor has a memorial and engaging visit from start to finish whilst being able to experience a nature rich landscape.
Nature is in trouble, there aren't many places left where wildlife can thrive, that is why we want to welcome more people to these places. We are looking for volunteers who can help engage visitors with the wildlife that calls Saltholme its home, from the avocets to the wigeon or the seals and dragonflies.
You'll need the following skills:
- Approachable and friendly demeanour
- Ability to communicate with visitors from different backgrounds and ages, with differing levels of knowledge
- Ability to listen to the needs of the customer
- Desire to help visitors and deliver excellent customer service
- Enthusiasm for wildlife, nature and conservation
- Confidence to communicate RSPB messages
- Willingness to undertake RSPB training
- Awareness of Health and Safety
- Ability to make a regular commitment
Full training and support will be provide for this role but you do need to be a ‘people person’ and have good communication skills.
This is a really rewarding and enjoyable role. You will be working with a friendly team on a beautiful nature reserve, you will have the opportunity to make new friends and spend time outdoors. You will get to meet loads of new people in this role, enjoying conversation and helping people have a wonderful visit.
There is always the opportunity to learn new things and gain skills through volunteering, by working on a reserve, you'll learn all about how nature reserves are managed and the wildlife that is found there.
