Administrator (Online Conservation and Community Engagement Administrator – Planning Networks for Nature)
Why We Need You?
Nature is under increasing pressure from development, and local communities are rightly concerned about the loss of wildlife and wild spaces. At the same time, there’s a growing movement of people eager to make a difference — to stand up for nature and help shape development in a way that benefits both wildlife and people.
That’s where Planning Networks for Nature comes in. This innovative pilot project (started in Kent and Sussex) supports communities through a dedicated digital platform, helping them navigate the planning system and connect with others who share their passion.
As an Online Conservation and Community Engagement Administrator you’ll help build and maintain a vibrant online space where members can access resources, share ideas, and get support. You’ll play a key role in helping people feel confident, informed, and empowered to take action for nature in their local areas.
What You’ll Be Doing?
You’ll be part of a small, friendly team helping to keep the Kent and Sussex Networks running smoothly. Working from home on a flexible rota, you’ll:
- Check in regularly during your shift to reply to member questions and keep conversations flowing
- Share updates, content, and events that inspire and inform
- Connect members to the right people – from planning experts to local conservation partners (Wildlife Trusts, Buglife, CPRE, BTO and more)
- Collaborate with other volunteers and staff to align messaging across platforms
- Moderate posts and uphold the values of a welcoming, respectful community
- Help grow the network by identifying promotional opportunities (e.g. via the Facebook page)
You’ll also have the chance to help shape future content and explore new ideas to boost engagement.
What’s In It for You?
- Be part of a pioneering project that helps communities protect and restore nature
- Build skills in conservation communication, community engagement, and digital outreach
- Connect with a supportive team of like-minded volunteers and RSPB staff, attending our monthly online meeting.
- Gain insight into how the planning system impacts wildlife – and how people can influence it
- Contribute from home at times that work for you
- Boost your CV if you're pursuing a career in conservation or environmental advocacy
Time Commitment:
We're looking for someone who can provide coverage once a week, for a minimum of 2 hours per week. This will be agreed in advance via a rota. If you can offer more time, we’d love to hear from you!
Who We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Passionate about protecting wildlife and nature
- Confident navigating websites and online tools (e.g. web forums, Microsoft Office)
- Proactive and friendly – ready to spark conversation and offer help where needed
- Good written communication skills and a professional, calm tone
- Creative thinker – able to suggest new ways to engage members (polls, Q&As, discussion topics)
- Comfortable using or learning Facebook to share updates and grow the network
Desirable:
- Experience engaging with online communities or digital platforms
- Understanding of the UK planning system, especially in Kent or Sussex
- You’ll receive full training, including online sessions to get familiar with the platforms and how the groups work.
