Specialist/Expert Volunteer (Workshop and Maintenance Volunteer)

We are looking for volunteers with specialist skills to join our team and help grow our capacity. By opening up our work to more volunteers in this way, it means we can scale up what we can achieve and do more for nature.

At Arne, in Dorset we are looking for someone to help us manage our workshop space, keeping track of supplies, tool inventories and helping to maintain our range of land-based machinery including tractor (and implements), ATV, Mower, Chainsaws, Brushcutters, Hedgetrimmer, Trailers and more.

This role will vary greatly as our machinery usage changes throughout the seasons, but we would be looking for someone to undertake repairs as required, investigate faults and advise solutions and help with ongoing maintenance/checks:

Full training and support will be provided but in general, we are looking for people with the following skills and experience:

• Good knowledge and experience of working with land-based machinery.
• Competence and confidence to undertake basic maintenance and repairs.
• Background in machinery/engine maintenance.
• Knowledge of machinery electronic would be advantageous, but not essential.
• Experience record keeping and managing stocks.
• Ability to interpret and follow risk assessments and codes of practise to ensure a safe workplace.
• Ability to work alone at times following lone working procedures.

This role would ideally be one day a week (friday) but we are happy to discuss other days and regularity to work around you.
