Why we want you. Our volunteers are incredible! They generously give us their time and talents, and they are key to the smooth running of our reserves and projects, so we want to make sure we give them the best experience possible. We are looking to start a new team of people to help coordinate our teams of volunteers in Area 1 (Devon Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly) and support the staff who manage them. You’ll become an important part of the Area Team working primarily with the area senior administrator, enabling us to do more for wildlife by supporting volunteering, developing existing volunteer teams as well as ensuring our volunteers feel involved, motivated and valued. This is a fantastic flexible role which can fit in around your other commitments. It’s a role where you will make a difference to the people behind the scenes of our reserves and wider work (both staff and volunteers) across the Southwest, from our stunning heathlands and reedbeds to our atmospheric estuaries, ancient woodland, farmland and uplands. It’s also a role in which you can grow and develop as the role & Volunteer Co-ordinator team expands.

What you’d be doing initially: • Help keep volunteer records current/up to date on our volunteer database, Assemble. For example, recording volunteer hours, running volunteer Long Service Award reports.

• Supporting volunteers and (Staff) with the use of Assemble (this is our online volunteer management system), including training on using the system where needed.

• Carry out other administrative tasks like processing volunteer expense claims and creating ID badges.

• Being a point of contact for new volunteering enquiries.

We hope that in time you will be joined by others and together you will form a Volunteer Co-ordinator team to:- • Help organise volunteer thank you events (a couple of times a year) and ordering long service awards (special pin badges).

• Assisting staff to plan and deliver volunteer interviews and inductions.

• Work with the reserve and conservation teams to review current volunteer roles and help identify gaps and support needs.

• Help the teams develop new processes or opportunities to streamline existing volunteering workflows to maintain a certain standard.

• Support staff in recruiting new volunteers. Help by proofreading new role profiles, creating adverts/posters, promoting roles on external websites, provide admin support for interview process.

We’d envisage this role taking between 1 and 2 days a week and it can be done from home (or from one of our reserve offices if you would prefer) at a time that suits you, to fit in around your other commitments. Living in Area 1 with the ability to travel to some of our reserves either in Devon, Somerset or Cornwall may have an advantage. However, this is not a requirement of the role. As part of your volunteering from home set up, we’d supply you with an RSPB laptop for ease of accessing RSPB Systems and MS Teams for meetings. You'll be trained in everything you need to know before starting in role, including in our Volunteer Database, Assemble. There’ll be support on-site from your line manager as well as a network of volunteer co-ordinators across the country.

What’s in it for you? • The opportunity to meet new people and be part of a large and diverse team of staff and volunteers who are passionate about nature.

• The opportunity to bring change and new ways of working to the teams to improve efficiency.

• The chance to use the skills honed during your working life to make things better for nature.

• The chance to learn new skills or develop existing ones and an opportunity for development within the role if you wish.

• Flexibility- the home working element of the role can fit in around your other commitments.

• You'd be helping us to ensure that volunteers have a rewarding and enjoyable time with us and that the reserve or project is well-supported by them. It's a wonderful opportunity to make a genuine contribution to wildlife conservation.

• The chance to learn about the incredible landscape, reserve and wildlife diversity of the West Country

You’ll need: • Strong computer literacy (Inc, Microsoft Office).

• Excellent organisational and record keeping skills and great attention to detail.

• To be a great people person, friendly, approachable and tactful.

• Excellent telephone manner and written communication skills.

• Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a small team.

• Able to work both from home and the office/reserves if required.
