Why we would like you

We’re looking for a great people person to manage and support a team of ‘Wildlife Guide’ volunteers who welcome visitors to Frampton Marsh reserve. We would also like you to build the team by recruiting new ‘Wildlife Guide’ volunteers, then inducting them to the role and introducing them to the rest of the team.

The ongoing support you provide this team of volunteers will help ensure they continue to enjoy their role and have you as their ‘go to’ person for any queries or specific support needs.

We’re anticipating that this role will require approximately 14 hours a month which can be split up to fit in around your other commitments. No wildlife expertise needed, just strong management and leadership skills.

What tasks would you be doing?

  • Checking in with your volunteers approximately once a month or every 6 weeks to ensure they’re happy, help with any queries, overall help them feel supported and valued and recognised.
  • Directing team activities including working up a rota for your volunteers.
  • Advertising the ‘wildlife volunteer’ role via the RSPB website and other free websites, responding to enquiries, interviewing, selecting, inducting and training new volunteers. Helping them integrate with the existing volunteer team.

It’s up to you how you organise your tasks – sometimes you might prefer to volunteer from home and at other times, for example when you’re meeting up with your volunteers, it could be better to come to the reserve. Or if you prefer you can work exclusively from the reserve. Lots of flexibility, this needs to fit around you.

What’s in it for you?

  • Great opportunity to put your people leadership skills to good use to ensure volunteers feel well supported and happy in their role.
  • Meet new people, fellow volunteers and staff alike.
  • Flexibility, working around your own schedule.
  • Opportunity to volunteer in a beautiful setting – blessed with a variety of freshwater habitats, Frampton Marsh has an abundance birdlife around The Wash - the biggest bay in England. Avocets, Redshanks and Skylarks can all be seen in summer, with thousands of ducks gathering on the freshwater scrapes in winter.

What skills and experience do you need?

Someone with excellent leadership skills and who enjoys helping people feel supported, listened to and valued. You’d need to have some experience of managing people previously. Essentially we’re looking for a great people person, approachable, friendly and supportive. No wildlife expertise needed, just strong management and leadership skills.
