RSPB Team Member (Brighton & Hove Swifts Nest Box Officer)

Why we want you

Brighton & Hove Swift Group has been monitoring Swifts nesting across Brighton & Hove since 2014 and is believed to be the group with the longest record. The results of nesting activity are published each year and feed into the national databases for Swift populations managed by the RSP and BTO, identifying trends both nationally and locally. The Group needs a volunteer to take on a newly identified role of Nest Box Officer, working with the wider team to drive the installation of new Swift Boxes across key sights in Brighton and Hove.

What you will be doing

  • Work with volunteers in existing hotspots across Brighton & Hove to promote the installation of new Swift boxes.
  • Working with the team identify nesting hotspots and ways in which the hotspots can be expanded or linked together.
  • Seek funding from Groups such as the Sussex Wildlife Trust, Sussex Ornithological Society and any other community support groups to subsidise the construction of Swift boxes.
  • Liaise with the Sussex Ornithological Society Swift Champion on the installation of new boxes.
